Indonesia Earthquake Update: Death toll rises as search continues

The search continues as rescuers dig through the rubble, Al Jazeera news reported that up to 4000 people were still believed to be trapped underground and inside buildings after an earthquake hit Indonesia last September 30 at a magnitude of 7.6. Rescuers reported that it is still possible to find survivors despite the fourth day being trapped depending on the injuries sustained.

Losing Hope
"Most people here are trapped and buried inside buildings. You cannot hope for more survivors. I think most of them have died." Indonesia's Vice-President Jusuf Kalla told reporters. While one tribal chief told reporters that at least 300 people died. According to Al Jazeera news, at least three villages were wiped out after a hillside collapsed during the earthquake. Mud and trees came tumbling down into the valleys causing absolute devastation.

Statistics rises
Official death toll is at 777 and rising with more than 2000 people being treated at hospitals. Bulding destroyed in the region is now at 20,000.
